The September 11-20 Tennessee State Fair has been revamped with educational and entertaining rides, games, shows and activities for the entire family. From a Guitar Hero Competition to a hands-on green living exhibition, the year’s fair has zeroed in on family fun.
One new addition to the improved fairgrounds is McDonald’s® Kids Country; a play zone designed for children three to eight years old. McDonald’s® Kids Country is located in the fair’s Family Fun Zone and is equipped with a playground, bouncy bounces, and a petting zoo. The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office will participate in teaching children about fingerprinting and child safety.
McDonald’s® Kids Country is next to Volunteer Village; where children’s imaginations will be sparked as they learn about life as a pioneer. Mining, quilting, bluegrass and lumberjack exhibitions will treat the entire family to an entertaining learning experience. For those with tinier tots, Tiny Acres teaches hands-on lessons about the agriculture process; beginning at the farm and ending at the market.
A variety of entertaining acts that the whole family can enjoy will grace the fair’s stages. The entire family will marvel at the talents of the dogs featured in the Extreme Canine Stunt Dog Show. Fair-goers can take home a few tricks to teach their family pet! But dogs aren’t the only thing you’ll find at the fair. No fair is complete without the heated competition of Randall’s Racing Pigs.
The Extreme Teen Zone offers paintball, go-karts, karaoke, and S.A.A.F.E; a joint partnership with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office and the Governor’s Highway Safety Program.
Families will also have the opportunity to take a trip around the world at the Festival of the Nations; held on September 12 from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Fair-goers will experience cultural traditions; including dance, music and customs from countries from around the world.
“This year’s fair recognizes the importance of spending time as a family, and that is why we have created a place where every family member can learn and have fun,” said Chrysty Fortner, Director of Marketing for the Tennessee State Fair. “With the variety of attractions and contests, families will find something that will make lifetime memories.”
This year’s state fair will hosts numerous contests including baking, hamburger eating, ice cream eating, as well as arts & crafts. Other contests like the Guitar Hero Competition and the Wii Bowling contest allow for the entire family to compete in one contest, raising the level of fun and competition at the fair!
Another key focus of the fair is being environmentally responsible. The fair can teach your family how to ‘be green.’ At the Green Energy Expo, environmental experts will show families how to incorporate eco-friendly activities into daily routines and explain how this year’s fair is green.
There are endless opportunities to learn and be entertained at this year’s state fair. With ticket prices as low as $5.00, and the convenience of finding something for everyone inside one fun-filled day, the Tennessee State Fair is a perfect family getaway.
